Construction of a new 9,400 SF wood framed Library. While the original goal was to achieve LEED Silver, TBC was able to achieve a LEED Platinum designation. This library won multiple awards including the Gold Nugget Grand Award for best Zero Net Energy building from PCBC and AIA East Bay Citation Design Award. It also scored the highest in sustainability criteria from AIA East Bay Annual Design Awards.
This project was the first Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Public Library in the State of California and only the second ZNE Public Library in the United States. To achieve the stringent goals of this designation, the project included radiant heat, solar heating for hot water systems and solar photovoltaic panels for electric generation.
